Bastinado

also known as Falaka

With contributions by str0be. - Thanks!

The bastinado is/was a common punishment in the Middle East.  The 'victim' has their bare feet restrained so that they are slightly elevated above the height of the person's lying body.  A thin wooden stick or switch is then used on the soles of the feet.  The 'torturer' swings the switch very quickly but makes only light contact with the feet.  The victim is unable to get away as the repeated light swats ceaslessly hit the soles of the feet.  After a few minutes, the hits damage blood vessels in the feet.  The result is that the victim does not feel the most pain from the initial torture, but rather its' aftermath, when they will be unable to walk or put any weight on their feet for an extended period of time.
