Novelties

For many years, many companies refer to sex toys as Novelties, rather than Adult or Sex Toys. The reason?  Putting the phrase "for novelty purposes only" removes the liability from the company if the product is misused.

However, because having toys as "novelties" also gave companies no real incentives to design better toys and items which did a better job of giving pleasure to the recipient.  By calling their goods Novelties rather than Sex Toys, manufacturers of "Novelties" don't have to be tested for it's use.  When you are selling a penis shaped "Novelty", you don't have to make certain that it can be inserted safely or that it is made of safe materials.
